Nan Perry was born in Ashland, Alabama which lies at the foot of the Appalachian Mountain Range. The lush greens and rolling hills of Clay County fostered a love for rural landscape and country nuances, which she translates to her canvas. Nan “doodled” as a child, never suspecting that tendency would later give vent to a full-blown love affair with oil painting. After pursuing a degree in education, she presently teaches English and art in a local high school. Although never receiving a formal art education, Nan is constantly seeking ways to improve her skill. She has studied with such artists as Jane Kirk, Judith Jordan, Donny Finley, Roger Dale Brown, and Paul McCormick. A resident artist of Marble Gate Gallery on Ashland’s Court Square, her work is on permanent display. In addition, her work can be seen in local restaurants. Her periodic participation in local art exhibits and commission work keeps her busy.
